The album, titled after the first name of Lil Nas X, was first announced in 2019. Its title, cover artwork, and tracklist were unveiled in 2021. Four singles supported Montero: the lead single, "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)", which topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and its follow-ups "Sun Goes Down", "Industry Baby", and this latest one - "That's What I Want".
